Science Thinking and Probing Reveals New, Basic Facts

Basic and applied science involves the physical and real world all around us – sciences of the earth (geology), weather(meterology), universe (astronomy), and life (biology) are just a few of these bodies of knowledge All scientists use those scientific methods appropriate to their particular studies. Scientists are inquisitive and curious people. Scientists explore, seek, and work  to discover the real world around them. Scientists are people who like to solve mysteries or problems of all kinds.

Scientists Use the Scientific Method as Follows --

Scientists
1. observe,
2. hypothesize (propose possibilities),
3. experiment (test and evaluate), and obtain data or results, and finally,
4. they reach conclusions based on the data that they obtained.

The conclusions of scientists may become a Law of science. The Law of Gravity, for example,  is a proven and established principle discovered by Isaac Newton, and the Law of Gravity is as true today as when Newton first discovered it. Sometimes scientists find research answers to problems early, sometimes much later, and sometimes the problem is left unsolved, or partially solved, to wait for someone else to figure out.  `

Scientific Method and Science Notebooks, Show the How, Why, Data and Details

Scientists Use Notebooks to Write Down and Record all their Research – Here, in science notebooks, are found the scientists scientific methods and materials, observations and data, and their conclusions or ideas about the results of those experiments. These notebooks enable scientists to review their own data, and to remember how they did experiments.

Science notebooks are always important, because if the original data are lost a scientist cannot properly show and prove the experiments or the results. Original data are very important. Copies of original scientific data and the scientific methods used should always be kept in a safe, different, alternate place, separated and away from the original lab notebook.

Notebooks are dated and numbered on each page, and each notebook has a stitched backing to lock in all the pages. Looseleaf formats and loose pages are unacceptable forms of record keeping for scientists. Every scientist, even beginners, should have a bound science notebook!

The scientific method will yield results, but the results are not necessarily infalliable, or perfect. Why? Because experiments will vary somewhat from experiment to experiment, and unknown or variable factors may skew or alter the results to a greater or lesser extent.  Experiments are always repeated and replicated to determine if the scientific method experiments are reproducible. Only when the results are repeated and reproduced regularly by different experiments, is a scientist ready to report and publish the data as valid.
